To reach what for many of the players was their first cricket grand final, the Cowra side had won five from six of their allotted matches, then enjoyed a solid win against Condobolin in the semi final.

Meanwhile Young - the only side to have bettered Cowra - had defeated Parkes to reach the grand final.

The Cowra side started the day in fine style, with presentation of a representative cap to each player performed by local rising cricket star Jacob McNaught.

An electronic video message was played to the boys wishing them good luck from 'Thunders' Cricketer and local Daniel Hughes just minutes before the game commenced.

Cowra Captain Darcy Callaghan lost the toss but was happy with Young's decision to send Cowra in to bat.

He and fellow opener Lewis McFarland made a promising start before McFarland just failed to make his ground as Young affected a sharp run out.

Callaghan then enjoyed a handy partnership with Sam Austin - adding a precious 34 runs - until the eleventh over when the captain's first lofted shot picked out a Young fieldsman.

Mikey McNamara was next to the crease, looked well organised in defence, however another lofted stroke was gratefully accepted by Young. Mac Webster arrived next and like those before him found scoring slow on the heavy outfield.

When Austin was caught on 27 the pair had taken the score to 4-49.

Bill Statham (3), Caleb Worth (4) and in particular Mitch Amos (9) then made valuable contributions, bringing Cowra's total to 81.

A pep talk at the break from coach Ken McNamara - and a sausage sandwich courtesy the Cowra Junior Cricket BBQ - had the under-12s primed to defend their smallish total.

Harrison Starr and Mikey McNamara opened the bowling and met solid resistance from Young's opening pair.

A good length from first change bowler Sammy Austin drew a false stroke and catch for Webster at midwicket in each of his first two overs. Still the Cherrypickers were looking comfortable on 2-33 at drinks, reasonably expecting that the heat would take a toll on the fielding and bowling performance from Cowra.

Bill Statham was having none of it, his first ball after drinks removing Young's opener with a catch held neatly by Starr at gully.

Still Young responded, reaching 49 with four down.

Starr was reintroduced into the attack with immediate effect, taking a wicket in consecutive overs.

McNamara helped out with another wicket and Amos bowled three tidy overs as Young's required run rate started to climb.

When the result was still in the balance Olbourne took a fine catch to give Sammy Austin his 3-4 off six overs.

Pat Hickman and McFarland kept the pressure on in the field as Young's hopes faded.

Webster snared a couple of wickets in the last over of the day leaving Young all out for 66.

A fantastic victory in front of many family and friends.

After the match Lachlan District Cricket Association President Greg Morrissey presented the Cowra boys with medallions marking the win. Coach McNamara paid tribute to the visiting Young side, thanking them for a close contest played in the right spirit.

He also thanked umpires Mark Ryan and Graham Thompson.

He reminded the boys that at the first training run the aim was, at least for our bowlers, to try and put most deliveries on the pitch.

Cowra Captain Callaghan then made a presentation to Ken on behalf of his players and their parents, thanking him for all his efforts.

It was a wonderful season for the under-12s, they should be very proud of the way they represented Cowra, their sportsmanship and team spirit shone out throughout the season, watching them celebrate after taking each of the ten wickets to win the grandfinal was a true indication that if you work together you can achieve great results.
