The Canowindra Tigers First Grade Squad have had a strong win against Cargo Blue Heelers in the second round of the Woodbridge Cup.

Canowindra defeated Cargo 40-16.

First Grade President Malcolm Miller said it was a big improvement on the week before, and everyone put in a lot of effort.

"The effort was well shared around," he said.

"Everybody did their share of work which worked really well as a team."

Miller said it was a good team effort right across the paddock.

With it only being the second round, Miller said it was good to get the cobwebs out and things moving along.

Miller noted that the goal kicking made a big difference this week, with all six converted.

"Goal kicking did make a difference because last week wasn't the best."

The League Tag match saw Cargo defeat Canowindra 26-8.

The Youth League had a bye.

This weekend will see a general bye for Easter, with the First Grade and Women's Grade hosting Peak Hill at Canowindra for round three on Sunday, 27 April. The Youth League Squad will host Narromine on the same day.

Canowindra Tigers First Grade 40 (tries Andrew Bennett 2, Ky O'Byrne, Joshua Cooney, Jonty Thurgate, Jaye Fuimaono, Lewis Dwyer. Conversions Robert Burn 4, Joseph Treasure 2) defeated Cargo Blue Heelers 16.

Coach Ron Lawrence echoed Mr Miller's comments, saying the team had improved and made an excellent team effort.

"We scored plenty of points in the second half, and I was pretty happy with our defence as well. We have a few new faces, so we'll be getting the new guys comfortable with our plays," he said. adding that Cargo had also improved and had some fresh faces, "They threw a fair bit at us and it was good for the guys to be able to defend it."

Mr Lawrence said he expected the next game, a home game with Peak Hill, was going to be a 'tough physical' game, "It always is against those guys. The games don't get any easier across the year, so we have a strong mid section that'll let us gauge where we're at as we go."
