The Cowra Magpies League Tag have had a resounding victory against the Blayney Bears at King George Oval on Sunday, with the visitors claiming a 56-0 win.

Magpies Coach Greg Garlick said the result was a credit to the team playing 'Magpies football.'

"The game went really well. The girls were exceptional. Very good discipline wise, maintaining structure as well as they could in a game where it was hard with so many line breaks and tries happening."

"We've been working on our own game plan, how we want to attack and defend in a unified way."

"It's all a team approach, using everyone's skill set for the betterment of the team. It's taken a while but we've stuck together but it's all falling into place where people are learning eachother's strengths and what works best."

Garlick hesitated to single out players for the win - attributing the overall victory to the Magpies' team focused style of play.

"It's a full team effort. We utilise our speed well out wide," said Garlick. "There's great leadership and ball play in the middle, able to get the ball to the edge quite well and then we use that speed to capitalise on it. Those girls may get the tries and get the points, but it's a joint effort. The gameplay just gives them the opportunity."

The Magpies will enjoy a short break and then face Eugowra at Sid Kallas Oval on the 27th of April. Garlick says the team will be focusing on their own brand of football and sticking to their strengths, rather than adjusting their play to fit the opposing side.

"We won't focus too much on who we play, it's all about us: we just play our game and stick to our processes and what works well for us. I feel that in previous years, you can change how you play against certain teams and it can get in the way of what you're trying to achieve." he said, "We play Magpies football, and anyone that gets in the way of us is going to cop it."

With the Magpies steamrolling Blayney on this occasion, Garlick says the team is not about to rest on their laurels this early into the season, and is aware the win is down to their style of gameplay working.

"It's a team first mentality, nobody is bigger than the team," he said. "Everybody plays a different role, sometimes that role is limited depending on how the game pans out. We have some senior players in there that have an amazing skill set and experience, and we also have this exuberant youth group coming through with raw speed and talent - and they're connecting really well as a team."

"There are several groups in the competition that are a group of individuals. While they're extremely talented, if we stick together as a team, we're going to be very hard to beat."

"We'll be met with challenges along the way, as long as we face those challenges together and realise that nothing's going to be perfect: we won't have a 50 nil a week every week undefeated season. We'll be tested and challenged, we'll deal with it together and we'll be fine."
