Despite a wet start to the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge over the weekend, the opening BBQ Cookoff was still able to go ahead with a great turnout.
The rain did ground the balloons until Monday when they were able to officially take off for the first day of the Balloon Challenge: flying from Woodstock back to Canowindra.
This year there are 24 balloons coming from near and far competing in the challenge, with all 24 expecting to take part in the Balloon Glow.
Canowindra International Balloon Challenge's Tom Beath said that despite the damp conditions on Saturday, 26 April, they still had a large crowd of about 1500 people come down for the BBQ Cookooff, with a Cowra local taking first prize.
Mr Beath said tickets are selling fast for the concert on Friday, 2 May which will feature Casey Barnes, Furnace and the Fundamentals.
Following on Saturday, 3 May, Mr Beath said they have a huge lineup for the street parade which is set to begin at 11am.
Gates for the balloon glow open 3pm with 131 market stalls and food vendors, live entertainment including The AC/DC Show and of course the incredible Glow.
Mr Beath encourages people to pre book their tickets to the range of events through 123tix.com.au to avoid line-up and queues.
