Dry conditions have unfortunately provided ample opportunities for fires to rapidly take hold in Cowra’s streets and suburbs.

Two grass fires were required an emergency response in a single night, both in potentially suspicious circumstances.

The first fire, on Macassar Street in North Cowra began on a secluded bush on a hill behind Col Stinson Park at about 5:30pm on May 6. Fire and Rescue firefighters attended the scene, and confirmed Cowra Police were in attendance.

Less than ninety minutes later, a second fire began a short distance from the first. Fire and Rescue confirmed fireworks ignited a small area of grass, at Bellevue Hill Park, also known as Billy Goat Hill.

Two trucks and eight firefighters responded to each incident. Chifley Police District were contacted for comment, but were unable to confirm further details.
