Despite flooding and substantial rainfall the Cowra track has held up well but the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting more rain with the possibility of up to 5mm on Friday and a further 5-10mm on race day.
"Cowra Jockey Club and the committee have worked hard to make sure everyone who attends has a good experience," Ford said this week.
"The meeting is about social benefits, not economic benefits, for the town.
"We're concentrating on getting people back together, having a good time with friends with Christmas approaching."
Already the club has organised gazebos and seating for 140 registered racegoers including a group of 30 cyclists who are riding from Boorowa.
Race sponsors include "St Raphael's Old Boys", Cowra Dental Practice, Railway Hotel and Michael Leighton (Pumpkin Smugglers Birthday Wish Handicap). The club has allocated a race to the town's front line workers and also called one the Chris Hemsworth to Cowra Handicap.
Eighty one nominations were received for the meeting with final acceptances to be declared at 10am on Thursday.
Cowra's only representation at the meeting is via the Michael Lynch stable which has nominated outsiders Brunela and Cheshire.
First up from a break Brunela will go around for Lynch in the fillies and mares Class 1 over 950 metres.
The winner of just one of its 22 career starts Brunela generally races well fresh, finishing among the placegetters on two occasions from three first up attempts but Lynch is warning punters to tread wearily when assessing its chance.
Both placings were in 1000 metres events following a break.
Lynch must be running out of patience with his other representative, Cheshire.
Fifth up from a break on Saturday in an 1100 metre maiden, Cheshire has yielded one placing from its past four starts, a second at Wellington over 1100 metres in September.
Still a maiden, Cheshire is only lightly raced having been sent the races for only seven career starts despite now being an eight-year-old gelding.
Cheshire has beaten just one home on its last two visits to the races, finishing 11th of 12 at Dubbo last weekend and 10th of 11th at Narromine in October.
