Nyngan's Jack Hargreaves, a member of the gold medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics, is the son of Peter Hargreaves who was born and bred in Cowra.
Born and bred in Cowra where his father was a stock and station agent for more than 30 years, Peter moved to Nyngan in 1983.
His son Jack, along with Alex Purnell, Alex Hill and Spencer Turrin made up the successful Men's Four crew.
The Australia crew were the fastest qualifiers coming into the final and showed why, getting out to an early lead.
Australia led with just 500 metres to go in the race as Romania pushed hard into second position and cut inside the distance between them and the leaders.
But the Australian's held on to claim the second rowing gold medal of the morning after the Women's Four won their final as well.
Hargreaves who grew up in Nyngan was supported in the town west of Dubbo by his family and his father Peter was almost speechless after the race.
After the race, Peter Hargreaves could barely contain himself just minutes after watching his son win an Olympic Gold Medal.
"Just relief that it is over," he said.
"It was so close and I knew it would be close but I thought Great Britain would be in there.
"I watching the finishing to make sure Australia were still in front when they crossed those little bubbles."
The Men's Four has been dubbed the 'new Oarsome Foursome' after the famous crew which won Gold Medals in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.
Peter Hargreaves was thrilled not just for his son but the other crew members who have worked tirelessly in preparation for the Tokyo Games which were due to be held in 2020.
"I'm just ecstatic for all those guys," he said.
"The four of them and just the way they recognised each other after the race I thought was really special."
Hargreaves admitted he can barely talk after the race especially after Romania and Italy produced a stunning comeback to almost snatching away the Gold from the Australians.
"You know Italy and Romania, those eastern countries will always come back at you," he said.
"I can hardly talk, we were screaming at the tv but it doesn't matter now.
"He's a gold medalist Olympian"
It is a redemption story for the crew who finished second behind Great Britain at the Rio Olympics back in 2016 while also breaking their streak of six consecutive gold medals in the event.
