Cowra Council has approved the allocation of $15,000 for a facilitator to assist council staff with the development of the Cowra Sport and Recreation Plan 2020/2021 - 2029/2030.

In his report to council, Director of Corporate Services, Michael Jones said although some preliminary work has been done in engaging sporting and community organisations in the shire, progress has been limited.
"It is proposed that council invests in an external facilitator to assist with the engagement of sporting groups that use council owned facilities," he said.
"Accessing an external person to facilitate engagement will remove any perceived bias that groups may have and thus (it is hoped) provide for greater level of input."
Councillor Ray Walsh anyone involved with sports or recreation across the Cowra Shire to engage with the plan.
"It could have very interesting consequences in the years to come because I would suggest this plan, once enacted, would be an important reference point for any applications for funding, not just from state and federal government, but also assistance expected by various bodies form council as well," he said.
"I would also suggest to the various organisations in the shire that are involved in their sport and leisure, it's not just council owned organisations that are going to be part of this, we are inviting everybody, be it the rugby union club, be it the race organisations...we want to hear from you also, you have the opportunity to have an input into it."
Councillor Peter Wright said input is needed from sporting and leisure organisations for future planning.
"Some might say it is a wish list but it's something we've got to find out from different sporting organisations, what they think the need is going forward," he said.
"If we've got a plan, it might come to fruition."
