City drew 1-1 in its opening clash against the Newcastle Jets away from home at Newcastle's Number Two Sportsground, with Carpenter's Matildas teammate Emily van Egmond putting through an early goal before the Jets drew level in the second half through Teigan Collister.
In the team's second match of the season, it was van Egmond again who broke the scoreboard in City's favour, though this time it helped seal a 2-1 victory against Carpenter's former team Canbera United at McKellar Park in Belconnen.
van Egmond put the ball to the back of the net in the 94th min after City received a late penalty, breaking the 1-1 deadlock that had existed after the City drew level courtesy of Milica Mijatovic.
The Melbourne City side will travel regionally this weekend, when they host Adelaide United in the Victorian town of Shepparton this Saturday for their first home fixture.
Adelaide United currently sit eighth on the W-League ladder.
