The Australians were relentless in their attack early, with the undersized Kerr's aerial ability bringing the Jamaicans undone on two occasions with headers, the widely-regarded striker becoming the first Australian to score four goals in a World Cup appearance.
Meanwhile, Carpenter, who faced the full brunt of an aggressive Khadija Shaw at one stage during the match, continued her strong from in the World Cup to date, with the Australian continuing to orchestrate aggressive plays along the right side of the field.
The match was a topsy-turvy one for the Australian fans however, with the three-way tie on points between Italy, Brazil and Australia meaning that the Australians had to rely both on goal differential and, later, the amount of goals they themselves scored to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
Kerr's goals were crucial in that regard, allowing the Matildas to score a greater number of goals than Brazilians and thus get second spot in Group C.
They will now travel to Nice this Sunday morning AEST, where they will take on Norway at the Allianz Riviera with kick-off from 5am in the round of 16.
Norway, who are ranked 12th in the world, defeated South Korea 2-1 at Stade Auguste-Delaune II to secure second spot in Group A and the right to compete for a quarter-final spot.
