Magpies captain Josh Rainbow capped of a stellar year by taking out the club’s first grade player of the year award.
The Magpies’ back-rower also took out the Group 10 player of the year award in August at the competition’s awards night at Bathurst Panthers polling three points in Cowra’s final round massacre of Workies to skip ahead of a class field.
Rainbow earned 17 votes to lead Hawks’ skipper Willie Heta (14) and 2016 Group 10 player of the year winner, and Cowra teammate, Jeremy Gordon (11).
Rainbow was the first Cowra player to win the award since 2009, when Dean Corrigan took out Group 10’s top individual honour.
The season also saw five members of the Cowra side named in a Group 10 team of the year, selected by Fairfax journalists who covered the season.
The Cowra players chosen were Blake Tidswell, Josh Rainbow, Jeremy Gordon, Braydn Cassidy and Benji John.
At this early stage the club is hopeful that their inspirational leader will turn out for the Magpies again in 2019.
Toby Apps was named the Reserve Grade player of the year.
A reliable workhorse, the award is recognition of a fine club effort from Toby.
