Steven Jon Mitchell, 35, was convicted of not keeping firearms safe on September 7 this year when police seized three rifles and ammunition from a Brisbane Street and Victor Street residence.
Police facts reveal, between 3.25pm and 3.35pm, officers located one 22-250 calibre rifle, one winchester calibre rifle and two boxes of ammunition on the floor of the Brisbane Street residence.
Mitchell told police the firearms had been in a cupboard, which wasn’t locked or secured, that he’d used the firearms about one week ago and that his firearms are registered to a residence on Victor Street.
Police seized a further third rifle at the Victor address and Mitchell was issued a notice of suspension.
Mitchell, who represented himself, told the court nothing in relation to the matter.
“It’s very serious to leave firearms and ammunition the way they were,” Magistrate Michael O’Brien said.
“Very often homes are broken into and they can fall in the wrong hands.”
