It was a special result for the Eagles, who sent two time premiership winner Brendan Mundy, who is heading home to Ireland after a long stint in Australia, out on a winning note.
Macquarie struck at the 10 minute mark, but Cowra responded with four goals to Shaun Mortyne, Toby Baker, Mikey Howarth and Max Wensley before the break.
Baker sealed the win when he netted midway through the second-half.
The result keeps Cowra in the battle for a top six spot, with another important fixture this weekend against sixth placed Panorama Black.
The Adam Gambrill coached side finishes its season with a string of tough games, facing off against the competition’s top two sides Panorama Red, CSU White and fourth placed Lithgow Workies Gold during the final three weeks.
“We probably need to win two of them, we could probably cop two losses,” Adam Gambrill said of the coming four weeks.
“Maybe even a win and a draw would see us through but it’s not about points, from my experience it’s about momentum at this time of the year.”
After going down early on Sunday, Shaun Mortyne leveled about 15 minutes in, continuing his solid goal scoring form during the second half of the year.
And Toby Baker, Mikey Howarth and Max Wensley were on the score sheet before the halftime whistle.
When Baker iced the win at about 70 minutes, Mundy moved up front in search of a goal in his last outing in the purple and black, but it wasn’t to be.
Still, coach Gambrill said it was a special occasion for the club.
“He’s been a huge player for us,” Gambrill said.
“He’s picked up two medals over the years.
“To send him home with a win was really pleasing for the club.”
Cowra turns its focus to this weeks match against Panorama Black.
They’ll be without goal scoring machine Toby Baker, but Gambrill is confident Shaun Mortyne can fill the shoes of Baker up front.
“Shaun’s going to be very important for us in the next few weeks,” Gambrill said.
“This is his first year back playing seniors.
“I wasn’t sure where he’d fit in.
“He’s strong and fast and found himself up top getting himself on the score sheet.”
The Eagles take on Panorama Black this Sunday, July 30 at Bathurst’s Proctor Park from 3pm.
