Council adopts draft Internal Audit Charter

Hilltops Council has voted to adopt its draft Internal Audit Charter following its April Ordinary Meeting.

Council recommended that Councillors receive and note the report and adopt the draft document with a unanimous response in voting.

"At the 22 May 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council adopted an Internal Audit Charter," the report read.

"The Charter provided to Council in May 2024 was based on an old version of the Office of Local Governments Model Charter and is now non-compliant with the current Internal Audit Standards."

The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee resolved to endorse the updated Internal Audit Charter, request the updated and endorses Internal Audit Charter be presented to Council for consideration and adoption, request Council to consider the approach towards its current needs for an Internal Audit Provider and request Council give due consideration for an Internal Audit project.

"Following Council endorsement of the draft Internal Audit Charter, staff will prepare a Request for Quotation (RFQ) and approach the market for the Provision of Internal Audit Services," the report read.

"The services included under this scope of work will include the preparation and delivery of an internal audit program as directed by the ARIC and in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter."

The draft document stipulated the Internal Audit Function is to also play an active role in developing and maintaining a culture of accountability and integrity, facilitate the integration of risk management into day to day business activities and processes and promote a culture of high ethical standards.
