Regional premiere of award-winning That Half Barbaric Twang

The Amusu Theatre in Manildra is hosting the Central West premiere of That Half Barbaric Twang, a music film documentary that was filmed in regional NSW including in Parkes and Eugowra. The Number 4 Band involving actors David Field from Two Hands and The Rover, and Geoff Morrell from Rake and Blue Healers, and music legend Tim Oxley have partnered with director Stephen DuPont to bring what has been described as a "spiritual epic road movie for the love of music and country”. Here's what you can expect. What do you get when you cross two of Australia's most recognised film and television actors with a musical madman? A troubadour trio of conscientious ‘vagabonds’, 160 years between them, who want to bring their ‘bad-ass gospel’ country twang to the most marginalised people in Australia. Through their larrikin humour and story telling, they are creating a new wave of excitement in Australia’s fringes, leaving behind smiles and some good ole feeling. Along the way they meet some quintessential Australian characters, a window into the sunburnt country with its oddballs and strange country folk on the fringes of society. The Number 4 Band is a three piece musical group whose original songs, ranging from folk to blues, country to rock, will put a smile on your face and get your toes tapping. Banjo, guitars, mandolin, snare, jembe and harmonica, with sweet harmonies gives The Number 4 Band a sound to remember. Think Crosby Stills Nash and Young having a drink at an old pub with Old Crow Medicine Show and The Pogues. The documentary was filmed across the Central West, featuring Hill End, Sofala, Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Wellington, Parkes, Yeoval, Molong, Eugowra and Gooloogong. The film won best emerging director at the 2026 Melbourne documentary film festival. It was also a finalist in best Australian documentary and best music documentary. It was invited to screen at the International Film Festival in Byron Bay held from 16-25 October and ended up winning best music documentary.
