Presentations totalling $27,295 were awarded on Thursday, September 26 at a morning tea held in the Council Chamber to celebrate the ongoing work and support of Cowra's community groups.
Attended by Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Judi Smith and Councillor Ray Walsh, Cr West spoke of the pleasure Council always has in providing the opportunity for local groups to apply for grant funding for their projects.
"It is always such a pleasure to give this grant funding to our Cowra community," Cr West said.
"Every dollar donated by Council through this project is a dollar well spent, and to see it being used for renovations, equipment, events and workshops, and be put back into the community for the residents to enjoy is what makes this project so enjoyable for everyone."
A total of 22 local groups were presented with cheques ranging from $869 to $2000 for projects including electrical upgrades, vocal workshops, new sports equipment, and storage equipment.
Cr West spoke of the importance of having such a wide variety of categories for community groups to apply and receive funding under, and the importance of continuing the support.
"Whether it's helping with the improvement of the canteen facilities at the Morongola Showground, assisting in the purchase of roller blinds for the Senior Citizens Hall, or the purchase of albums and acid-free sleeves for the Cowra & District Historical Society, these are all projects that give back to the Cowra community and can be enjoyed by all for many years to come," Cr West said.
Other projects supported by Council included help with providing funds for the installation of a new business identification sign for the Cowra Arts & Craft Society Inc, assisting with the purchase of deep cycle batteries for solar panels at the Riding for the Disabled Cowra Centre, assisting in staging Cowra's New Year's Eve Beach Party & Fireworks Spectacular and assisting with the purchase of a defibrillator at the Woodstock Swimming pool.
"The response to our Community Grants Program continues to grow with the quality of applications making it very enjoyable to select and distribute Councils funding," Cr West said.
The Cowra Council twice-yearly Community Grants Program provides funding to a maximum value of $3000 per financial year to local not-for-profit and primarily volunteer run based community groups within the Cowra Shire.
Now in its ninth year, Council have provided community groups with funding for 182 projects since the programs commencement in August 2015 totalling $201,978.
