Hongbo Yang from Shandong Agricultural University (SDAU), Taian, China arrived in July.
He will spend six months working with Professor David Hopkins and Dr Stephanie Fowler at the NSW Department of Primary Industries, Centre for Red Meat and Sheep Development on the analysis of data from a beef project conducted in China as part of his Masters degree.
Mr Yang utilises Raman lasers to learn more about the shelf live of meat products. He will also assist the Cowra Meat Science team with data collection at slaughters.
Mr Yang is joined by Charles Sturt University PhD student Bridgette Logan and PhD student from Brazil, Giuliana Micai de Oliveira, with the latter also spending a number of months learning in Cowra.
NSW DPI has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SDAU, with Professor Hopkins travelling to the university to give lectures and assist students on a regular basis.
