The $70 million project was announced today by Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke.
“Hospitals in our region have all received upgrades under the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government so I spoke with the community and ensured the case for upgrades at Cowra Hospital were heard by those in the city,” Ms Cooke said in a statement released today.
“Today’s announcement comes down to the hard work of locals and ensures that Cowra Hospital will continue to deliver amazing healthcare now and into the future.
“In addition, this upgrade will go a long way in attracting more health care staff to the region,” Ms Cooke said.
Mr Hazzard said the NSW Government’s strong economic management has enabled this investment in the upgrade and expansion of Cowra Hospital.
“The Liberal & Nationals Government is delivering a modern hospital for the Cowra community that will offer the best possible healthcare with state-of-the-art equipment,” Mr Hazzard said.
“The NSW Government has spent almost $10 billion on building hospitals and other health facilities in recent years and over the next four years is planning to invest over $8 billion, including one in every three dollars in the regions so that patients receive high-quality health care closer to home.
This significant investment will also deliver better health outcomes and create around 700 jobs during construction.
Early planning work on the upgrade has already started and construction is due to commence in 2022-23.
