CHAMPIONSHIPS – Our second semi-final for our Major Triples competition was played on Saturday with Brett Davenport, Brian Asimus and Christian West proving too good on the day against Bobby Grant, Scott McKellar and Lyall Strudwick.
Team West flew out of the box in the challenging windy weather with the elements not seeming to worry them. Leading 14-3 on 10, they were not backing off at all. 20-9 on 15 they picked up a 5 on the 16th and sprinted to the finish line.
Brett, Spro and Christian will now meet Clint Hurford, Robert (Pooch) Dukes and Mitch Andrews in the finals before the 9th August to find out who will be crowned the 2025 Champions for the Major Singles.
MAJOR FOURS – It was a busy Sunday for our Major Fours with one game played in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

In our morning game Brian Asimus, Jax Murphy, Scott Andrews and Mitch Andrews met up against Alf Davies, Laurie Crouch, Glenn Kearney and Christian West.
Team West were stronger contenders out of the starting blocks with Team Andrews a little slower to get runs on the board.
They soon found their groove on 9 when they gained a 3 to put them in the lead 8-7.
Levelling on the next end at 8 apiece, 12-all on 14, Team West gained a 3 to jump to the lead.
Team Andrews weren’t done yet and made it 17 all on the 3rd last end. It was Team Andrews who picked up the last 2 ends to win the game 20-17.
The afternoon game was played between Al Phillips (filling in for Paul Baker), Dale Maynard, Mick Merritt (filling in for John Cutler) and Troy Clarke drawing against Clint Hurford, Geoff and Bruce Williams and Robert (Pooch) Dukes.
15 ends won verse 6 ends Team Dukes gave it their all. Had a great start and only dropped 3 of 12 ends with points showing 15-6 in favour of Team Dukes. Team Clarke took the next gaining a 3 they started to close the gap. Team Dukes answered back and had a great run home with an overall score of 24-12.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Wednesday – Draw from the hat last week resulted in Ann and Peter Mackay as partners, they went down 16-10 playing card draw winners Eddie Gould and Ross Williams in 18 ends.
In the club after Ann said it was Peter’s fault, he said the opposite, but all in the spirit of the game Wednesday mornings.
It was 3-all after six, all singles then multiples for 7-all after 11 before Eddie showed class to led the winners home.
In another close game runners-up were Terry Molly and Kerry Dunstan 15-13 in 22 over Phil Hocking and Mount Gambier visitor John Whitely. The pair of locals were in trouble early down 4-10 after 12 before getting the speed of the damp greens to only loose two of the remaining ends home.
Regular coastal visitor Cage Cowell led for Noel Jolliffe winning 28-14 in 20 over Bill O’Connell and Dale Scott. It was a case of a strong start and equally strong finish. They led 9-0 after six finishing winning the last five ends 8-0.
Sandra Priest and Billy Cowell won 19-12 over Tim Everest and Sue White in 18, here another strong finish featured coming from 9-10 down after 12 winning the run home 8-2.
Don Craft said it was his turn to win over Lyall Strudwick and he did skipping for Geoff West winning 22-13 over Lyall and Phil Bayley in 20 leading 14-4 at the half way mark.
In the last John Baass and Cliff Nelson played like teenagers winning 20-9 over Bill Scott and John Kennedy. A five on the first set the tone for the rest of the match played over 18 ends. From the first all singes and twos to both on the run home. In-club winners John Whitely and Sue White.
Thursday – 18 bowlers took to the greens for a fun afternoon of bowls in the sunshine.
What started out to be a close game between Terry Molloy and John Whitely verse Ivan Hodges and Dale Scott did not finish as close as they hoped. Terry and John lead until the 9th when Ivan and Dale gained a 3 to lead 8-7. Terry and John just couldn’t quite keep up against Ivan and Dale and went down 12-20.
Tara Shaw and Billy Cowell were struggling against Graham (Cagey) Cowell and Jeff Nicholson. 8 all on 10, 11 all on 15, Cagey and Jeff won the next 5 ends in a row to take the win 20-11.
Ange Dwyer led for Dale Maynard and Laurie Crouch in our triples game against Noel Hocking, John Baass and Alan Hilder. Keeping the opponents scoreless until the 5th end, Noel, John and Alan led 4-0. Noel, John and Alan took the next 4 to increase their score 10-1. They could smell victory and stormed ahead to win 16-6.
Our last pairs game was played by Cliff Nelson leading for Scott McKellar again Phil Hocking and Glen Kearney. Phil and Glen led all the way picking up 4’s and 3’s against Cliff and Scott’s 1’s up to the 15th.
They were able to gain 2 3’s on the board to put them in double digits but it wasn’t enough to win the game. Phil and Glen were the victors 22-17.
Resting touchers: Dale Scott, Billy Cowell, Phil Hocking, John Baass and Ange Dwyer. Raspberries for wrong bias went to John Baass.

SUNDAY BOWLS – due to inclement weather there were no Sunday bowlers however due to the competition games being played the chicken raffle still went ahead.
