“Council’s 2017-2021 Delivery Program includes an up-to-date history of the Cowra Shire as one its objectives,” said Cr Bruce Miller, Chair of the Cowra History Book Committee.
“We’re very pleased that after investigation into community interest and the costs involved in producing such a book, we’re now able to move forward with the development of a history of our Shire covering the years 1988 to 2018,” Cr Miller said.
A history of the district, Cowra on the Lachlan was published in 1988.
The work was a series of essays contributed by local authors on local history, sports, community groups, villages, churches, and local government and was funded and published by Cowra Shire Council.
Throughout 2016, informal inquiries were made of a number of individuals and groups in the community seeking to gauge the level of interest in supplementing Cowra on the Lachlan by recording the more recent history since its publication.
In March this year Council resolved to form a Cowra History Book Committee to oversee the development of a Cowra history book that covers the last 30 years.
Leanne Poll of Letterati Publishing Services in Bathurst has been appointed as Managing Editor of this new history.
“We look forward to working with Leanne and contributing authors from our community to make this book a great success,” Cr Miller said.
The book, when published, will be available in digital and print form.
Cr Ruth Fagan said she encourages Cowra groups to be involved in the project and provide their histories.
