With COVID-19 restrictions in place, Cowra Golf Club Pro, Tom Perfect, said some changes will need to be made this year but a strong field is expected to compete on the weekend.
"This year we have had a format change to two rounds of 18-hole stroke," he said.
"This year we are looking like having a great field of around 120 competitors take to the course each day.
"This number is a little up on last year's event which is great to see even with the current restrictions in place.
"We have adapted the event to comply with all the regulations to ensure COVID safety of all competitors."
With the current travel restrictions in place, this year's field is predominantly made up of golfers from the Central West District, coming from Bathurst, Orange, Young, Dubbo, Parkes and Forbes and everywhere in between.
Perfect said there were a number of visitors to watch, but a number of locals are expected to be in the mix.
"The favourites to watch out for are Robert Payne from Duntryleague, Steve Betland from Forbes and Phil Campbell from Bathurst," he said.
"The Cowra hopefuls to watch will be Pete Kirwan, Pat Edenborough, Jake Moodie and Mick Curtale."
Last year's competition was played under tough conditions, with rain making the greens unplayable and a two hour weather delay forced on the players.
Andrew Tharle from Royal Canberra took out the championship, firing 70 (1 under par) to win by 2 over Steve Betland from Forbes Golf Club.
B grade was a tied after 18 holes and required a play off between Jeff MacPherson from Cowra and Chris Lamont from Shelly Beach to decide the winner after they were tied on 85. Chris edged out Jeff on the second play off hole to claim the B grade title.
C grade was won by Clive Wilson from Cowra Golf Club with a score of 93, 3 shots in front of Chris Quigley from Richmond golf club 96.
In the ladies' event Kelly Quigley from Castle Hill Golf Club took the win with 94 from Julie Finn Richmond golf club on 100.
While visitors featured heavily on the winner's list, the handicap honours went to a number of Cowra players, including Marty Stevens (A Grade), Graham Thompson (B Grade), Chris Baratto (C Grade) and Helen Moriarty (Ladies).
While a little bit of rain is expected for this year's competition, Perfect said he's looking forward to the event.
"It's fantastic we are able to run this event during this time and showcase the fantastic condition of great golf course," he said.
"We look forward to great weekend on the course.
"We would like to thank our event sponsors of Jamieson's Joinery and Building Centre, Tyrepower - Cowra Tyre and Brake Centre, Morgan Insurance, C.O.P.E.S and Cowra Veteran Golfers for their ongoing suppoort of one of our major events on the yearly calendar."
