Katie, who completed her Early Childhood and Care traineeship late last year, was employed by Skillset and hosted by Cowra Early Childhood Services (CECS), while completing her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care with TAFE NSW.
With such a passion for the learning development of young children, Katie said it made sense to pursue a career in an industry she was interested in.

"This traineeship has been such a rewarding experience, allowing me to to deliver programs that set the foundations for cognitive, physical, emotional, social and language development before children proceed to primary school," she says.
"Being named as a finalist for the Trainee of the Year Award is a great honour and has given me confidence in my performance as a trainee.
"Through awards like this, training services have provided an opportunity for apprentices and trainees to engage with the wider community, and promote the benefits of vocational education and training to school leavers."
Skillset has four other finalists at this year's Western NSW Training Awards, including Jordan Ticehurst (Thales Australia) and Joshua Reyter (Cabonne Council) for the Apprentice of the Year Award; Jay French (Orange City Council) for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award, and Reece Oldfield (Moolarben Coal Operations) for the Trainee of the Year Award.
Skillset CEO Craig Randazzo congratulated all individuals on this prestigious achievement.
"This is a wonderful achievement for five of our apprentices and trainees to be named as finalists among some of the region's highest achievers in vocational education and training. This award recognises their hard work and determination with both on-the-job and off-the-job training."
Due to restrictions and social distancing measures, training services will announce the category award winners who will then progress onto the NSW State Training Awards Finals, through an online event on July 1, 2020.
