"This, along with new seating and shade structures, additional lighting for shop fronts, new frontage to Squire Park and additional flower beds and landscaping, will create a more appealing environment for both shopping and socialising. It's an exciting time for Cowra.
"Council acknowledges that there will be disruption during the construction phase, however all shops will remain open and accessible throughout the project and we urge residents to continue to support local business."
Stage one of construction has now commenced at the intersection of Kendal and Lachlan Streets to create a new entrance to Cowra's shopping precinct.
Construction will then work up the street on alternating sides and it is expected to take 12 months to complete the 3,500m2 project.
Project Manager and Director of Environmental Services, Kate Alberry, said support and feedback from the community and local businesses about the project has been extremely positive.
"We've also seen other towns in the Central West inspired to start to look at how they can revitalise their main streets," Ms Alberry said.

"With traffic control and a 40km speed limit in place around the construction area, we remind residents to drive carefully and be mindful of the pedestrian access and road works.
"We will ensure the community is kept up to date on progress of the construction and anything that may affect them via Council's social media channels and website."
