Each Thursday, TAFE NSW Cowra Certificate III in Catering Operations and Certificate II in Kitchen Operations students run "The Knoll" cafe, which is open to the public.
On Thursday, students were serving up treats such as Thai Beef Salad and Lemon Meringue Pie to 30 guests.
Head Teacher Dianne Johnson said it gives the students practical skills before they head into the workforce.
"Students can come out and showcase what they do during the week, so it gives them that opportunity to prepare, cook and serve real customers," she said.
"All of sudden, we've got to be on time, we've got to be ready, it's got to taste good, it's got to look good."
She said students get to try a little bit of everything.
"Very multi-skilled training for students so hopefully they can then just progress into employment within Cowra and the district and work in that type of hospitality are," Mrs Johnson said.
"It's that real life experience that they can get which is great.
"This just gives them a chance to do that in a supervised environment."

Cowra Certificate III in Catering student Robyn Ross said the course and working in the cafe gives her confidence.
"It's good interaction, it's been 15 years since I've been out in this sort of environment so it's a good refresher and just good for confidence," she said.
"I've learnt so much in the kitchen, to go back to the basics and get to understand from scratch"
The Knoll cafe is open from 12pm - 1.30pm every Thursday.
