This year’s event is a totally local event after south coast company Elite Energy ran last year’s event in conjunction with the Forbes club.
The December date fits in well with the Central West Interclub series which is held each season between the Cowra, Mudgee, Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo clubs.
The first race of the series was held in Cowra in October while Mudgee hosted race two last Sunday.
None of the club’s host a race in December, making the Forbes race the unofficial third leg in the series.
Bathurst host a race on Australia Day before the series moves to Orange on February 17 before wrapping up in Dubbo on March 3.
Forbes race organiser Nick Turner said there are races at the Forbes event to cater for all levels of fitness.
“There are mini-croc races for the kids, all the way up to a race equivalent to the half iron man distance,” Turner said.
Events programmed include a Super Sprint, a Crocs Challenge, Long Course and mincrocs.
The super sprint is a 250m swim, 10km bike ride and a 2.5km run set to start at 8.30am from the Lake Forbes Aquatic area on the Bedgerebong Road.
The Crocs Challege competitors will hit the water at 8am for a 750 metre swim, 30km bike and 7km run.
The earlier risers will tackle the Long course from 6.30am diving into the warm waters of the Lake for a 1.9km swim before jumping on their bikes for a 90km ride, finishing with a 21km run.
The Minicrocs wrap up racing from 11am with a 50m swim, 1km bike ride and 250m run.
Registrations can be completed online now via the Forbes Running and Tri Club’s facebook page
“Interest seems to be pretty good – people are already starting to register for the longer races,” Turner said.
““People like to come out here, we get a lot of people from Sydney and the coast.
“We take running around the lake for granted, but the club got a lot of good feedback from people at the running festival.”
“There’s no traffic, it’s quiet, it’s attractive,” he said of the course.
