The club has donated a pallet of dog food to Jessica Skinner’s Doing it for our Farmers donation drive.
President of the club, Con Bunnik, said the idea of the donation was brought up at one of their meetings.
“One of our members, Colin Dunne, saw a Facebook post asking for donations,” he said.
“Colin asked what the farmers needed and a local farmer responded.
“He told Colin the poor buggers out west, their dogs are starving to death, so they need working dog food.
“He then presented the idea of buying some dog food and donating it to one of our meetings and we got the full support of the members.
Mr Bunnik said although the club was a not-for-profit, they loved to support charities.
“We’ve been running for five years as a club for enthusiasts of cars, motorbikes, trucks, tractors and motorized machinery,” he said.
“We are a strong club and we support charities every year. We are just happy to be helping the farmers.
“We’re with them all the way and we will continue to support them when we can during this unfortunate time,” he said.
Lachlan Fertilizer’s Greg Russell said it was fantastic to see the club giving their support to farmers.
“Without our farmers, none of us are here, they are the backbone of the country,” he said.
“The support the car club is giving them is good to see. It was also great that Mars Pet Care came to a deal with us to sell the food to the club at a cheaper price.”
Mr Bunnik said he was trying to shake the stereotypical image people had of car clubs.
“A lot of people think a car club is just boys with their toys,” he said.
“That all they want to do is go for a drive. We try not to be that we are a community organisation wanting to be open and supportive of the community we live in.”
