The tumult and the shouting has gone. The captains, coaches, players and supporters have departed and the birds have reclaimed the oval. Reality passes and again the dreams of what could have been and may come have returned.
At the beginning of the 2014 Group 10 season if anyone had said that Cowra would have three teams in the final series with two teams making the grand final which could be played in Cowra at the Sid Kallas Oval you would have told them that they had rocks in their head but we did it and so the accolades and thanks must be acknowledged.
Firstly to the coaches and players who made up the 2014 Magpies. Thankyou for your dedication and determination to achieve a dream. You are now part of Magpie history.
To the committee, consisting mainly of novices, with Dean Murray and Brett Jeffries putting up their hand at the onset of the season to undertake the onerous task, a task you undertook and fulfilled far beyond the expectation of many, thankyou for your splendid efforts.
Come grand final day the committee and team of volunteers made Cowra proud. The oval has never looked in better condition than what it was on that day. To this effect a special thankyou must be given to the workers from the Cowra Council for their efforts in presenting the ground in such a wonderful manner.
There are so many to thank for their efforts in making it a top day. The canteen with Tanya and Jane at the fore ran like clockwork and the team of girls who volunteered their day are to be thoroughly congratulated for their efforts. They were the forefront but behind the scenes undertaking the cooking task were John Pangas, Yakka Myers (out of retirement for the day) and Geoff Steele who just kept the food coming. Anyone disappointed with the canteen's functioning are hard to please.
Thanks goes to members of the Cowra Rotary Club for their efficiency in handling the gate.
Thanks goes to the Cowra Junior Rugby League for their efforts in manning the canteen on the Young Road side of the ground.
I must make special mention of two volunteers for the day in Dick Brown and Doug Crossley who undertook to sell doubles on the day. They reported to me that their efforts certainly were an eye opener. On behalf of the club thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
To Marty Annetts, Peter and Ben Bryant and other members of the Cowra Reserve Grade team who sold raffles through the day, thankyou for your efforts which certainly were greatly appreciated.
A big thankyou to the ballboys. You all did a great job.
Thanks to the sponsors who threw their financial support behind the Magpies at the beginning of the season. Without this support days such as grand final day would not happen.
To the business houses in town who supported the Magpies, decorating their shop windows so well, thankyou for your support.
A big thankyou must go to Ace McDonald for his contribution and effort to make sure the day ran smoothly. Well done Ace.
Finally a big thankyou to all those who attended the game at the Sid Kallas Oval last Saturday.
You came with heart and voice that the players dream may become a reality, but, unfortunately this was not to be.
If I missed anyone, sorry.
So we look forward to 2015 that this may be the Year Of The Magpies for nothing is impossible as long as you believe.
See you there and thanks for the memories.
Sid Kallas.
Cowra.
