World Suicide Prevention Day Sept 10

Next month on September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. The World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 'Change the Narrative' theme is a call to action to "Start the Conversation". The aim of the theme is to raise awareness about the importance of changing the narrative surrounding suicide and transforming how we perceive this complex issue.

There are a number of ways to get involved and make a difference with many choosing to walk 9km for World Suicide Prevention Day for the 9 Australian lives lost to suicide every day. Every step you take will bring hope and save lives. The 'Out of the Shadows' walk this year promises to be one of the biggest yet.

Supported by Lifeline, Australia's leading suicide prevention service, with a vision of an Australia free of suicide, World Suicide Prevention Day has become an important day on the calendar.

Lifeline provides all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. This year, Lifeline will receive well over 1 million contacts from people in crisis. Every 29 seconds, someone in Australia will call the crisis support line. If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed or struggling with thoughts of suicide, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
