Station 270, Cowra is going to be home to two new toy firetrucks courtesy of Cowra's Men's Shed. While the trucks are a bit on the smaller side than their Fire and Rescue counterparts, The Cowra Guardian understands that for firies across the state lucky enough to have them, the toy trucks are a closely guarded asset.
The trucks, used on open days and community events allow children and perhaps aspiring rescue workers to use firehoses to take aim, pushing the trucks forward and come to terms with the power of firehoses and the importance of keeping on target.
Handmade with love by Cowra Men's Shed's Leo Garcia, the first truck has been kindly named by Fire and Rescue Captain Stephen Overmann, "Leo" after Mr Garcia.
"It took a fair bit because of a lot of fiddling, there's a skeleton that had to be constructed around." said Mr Garcia, who proudly estimates he has spent roughly 200 hours working on the trucks, which have horns, wheels, lights and markings featured on their bigger brothers and sisters - and have been built tough and durably enough to stand up against the toughest conditions of all: playtime.
Keen residents can keep their eyes peeled on Station 270's social media in the coming days to help name the second firetruck, and help support the good work of the Men's Shed.
