A champion experience

Addison Newcombe had a great experience on the footy field when she captained the Greater Western Regional team at the Combined High Schools Under 16 Girls Rugby League Championships in Wollongong.

The Canowindra High student made her Greater Western debut last year, playing on the wing, and stepped up to lead the team this year playing at lock.

Addison said the experience was really fun and she liked playing different sorts of footy.

The championships kicked off with a training day and played out over four big days from 25 May.

Addison had captained the Western area team through the Greater Regional Rugby League trials to qualify for the Greater Western squad.

When it came to the CHS championships, Greater Western played in three highly competitive games against other regional teams.

Addison said it was a tough competition with players in the other teams working well together as many of them play in the same teams at lower levels, whereas many of the players from the Greater Western team are drawn from a larger geographical area.

Addison said she liked to play in these types of competitions with the support and encouragement from her dad who pushes her to do better.

"He thinks if I put my mind to it, I'll get it," she said.
