The occasion was marked with an additional cake added to its regular morning tea last Friday, December 8. This milestone has been reached due to the time and effort that the teams of committed volunteers have put in each Thursday afternoon and Friday mornings.
The aim of the Cowra Uniting Church Food Hall is to provide access to food in a caring and supportive environment and to increase food security for members of the community.
Throughout 2017 we were able to achieve those aims by providing groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables to eligible clients each week. Local shops such as Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Riverside Markets and Discount Dave’s consistently support the food hall.
Many generous people contribute produce each week to supplement the food offered to the clients. These include fresh eggs, home-made preserves, home grown vegetables and fruit, frozen meat packages and frozen meals.
During October the Cowra Uniting Church Food Hall invited members of local community groups to be part of “Food Share and Care Month”, members were invited to donate food items to help boost the supply of groceries thus allowing and savings to be spent on good quality fresh fruit and vegetables.
A huge thank you to all those people who so generously donated groceries to the Food Hall. Your support is greatly appreciated and your generosity and kindness has made a great difference to the lives of many of our community members.
The community “Kitchen Garden” is producing some great crops, such as onions, spinach, beetroot, lettuce and parsley all of which are being offered as complimentary food items as they are harvested each week.
The team of volunteers maintaining the garden are hopeful that the garden will continue to grow to provide healthy seasonal fresh vegetables as well as being an attractive place for people to spend time in.
With the continued support that the people of Cowra so generously give, it is our hope that Cowra Food Hall continues to provide this valuable service throughout into 2018. The Food Hall will be closed on December 29 and reopen January 5, 2018. The Food Hall would like to extend its best wishes for a happy and safe Christmas season.
