Nominations have been extended for the chance to recognise the volunteers, community leaders, and givers in our community in Cowra’s 2018 Australia Day Awards, Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West said.
Nominations for this year’s awards, which were to close last week, have now been extended until Friday, December 1 at 4.30pm.
“It’s time to recognise those hard-working people in and around Cowra that quietly toil-away in our community, making our region a better place to live,” Cr West said.
Cr West — together with Cowra’s Australia Day Committee co-chairs Cr Bruce Miller and Cr Ray Walsh — is encouraging everyone to consider nominating an individual or group they believe deserve recognition for their work in the community.
“Cowra is very fortunate to have so many individuals and groups that volunteer their time, week after week, to help others,” he said.
“Although these people don’t do it for the recognition, nomination for an Australia Day Award is a nice way to let these people know that their efforts are appreciated.”
Nominations are being taken for the following Awards:
# Cowra Citizen of the Year.
# Cowra Young Citizen of the Year.
# Cowra Community Group of the Year.
# Dr Warren Whiley Memorial Award (for significant contributions to Arts, Culture and Citizenship).
“Don't let those unsung heroes go unnoticed.
“Nominate someone who contributes to and inspires our community for an award this Australia Day,” Cr West said.
Nomination forms are available from Cowra Council’s Customer Service Centre or from Council’s website www.cowracouncil.com.au.
Simply follow the guidelines, fill out the Form, and return it to Council by Friday, December 1.
The awards will be presented at the official 2018 Cowra Australia Day Service on Friday, January 26, 2018.
