Kylie is back in Cowra on July 3 to launch her book about leadership which is a provocative collection of stories for anyone that is interested in the changes that are happening around us and ways to lead successfully whether you are leading a program, community organization, small business, school, farm or government.
Kylie was born and raised in Morongla on a farm called “Rockley” and spent her school years at Cowra primary and Cowra high.
She wanted to be a vet growing up but ended up pursuing her second field of interest in economics.
Setting off for the University of New England in Armidale after finishing school Kylie had no idea where it would all lead but was excited for the adventure of living somewhere new and meeting interesting people.
In her third year of university she spent a year abroad in California which fostered her already emerging passion for seeing the world.
Kylie had spent 7 weeks in Japan in year 11, while she was studying Japanese under Mrs Judi Smith, and is a restless soul that loves to see new places.
Fast forward almost thirty years and Kylie now lives in Atlanta, Georgia in the US with her husband and two children.
During this time, Kylie has completed a Masters at Oxford, worked in Canberra, Brisbane, London and New York and been in senior leadership in multiple companies.
She was in London during the 2007 bombings, worked in finance in New York during the 2008 crisis, watched Hurricane Sandy flood New York City and has experienced happy and sad, easy and hard.
Kylie credits her business acumen to growing up on a farm where she learned the principles of managing through good times and hard times.
She is a regular visitor to Cowra, where her parents Kevin and Del Wright live, and a passionate believer in the core values of a country upbringing being instrumental to her ability to adapt to any environment, relate to people and to thrive and persist.
Her motto is “live exceptionally” and she believes that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard and take some risks.
Writing this book, The Leadership Mind Switch, was a milestone for Kylie and a way to share stories and inspire others to follow their dreams.
Cowra will be the first place in Australia that the book is launched, being true to her roots, and a reception will be held at The Oxley from 5.30-7.30pm on Monday, July 3.
