This is the 77-year-old's third stint in jail for fraud-related offences.

In jailing Larkin for two years, with 18 months non-parole, Magistrate Megan Greenwood said that he had used considerable skill and cunning in abusing the court system to fleece people he knew had money.

Despite having no documentation or concrete evidence concerning claimed debts, the twice-bankrupted convicted fraudster lodged bogus claims of up to $60,000 a time against people he knew. He obtained default judgments against them, then he lied to registrars and magistrates saying that he had served those court orders on his victims.

The court would then issue a garnishee order against his victim and, in some cases, money was taken from the victim's bank accounts without their knowledge.

Magistrate Greenwood described his actions as brazen and shameless and said that the integrity of the courts was of "vital importance".

She also said that Larkin was motivated by greed, had made no attempt to pay back his victims and that he had shown no remorse.

Property developer Tony Merhi lost just under $60,000 for a false claim that Larkin had provided him with property consultancy services. Auctioneers Colleen and Colin Vickers had $15,000 taken from their bank account after Larkin falsely told the court they had kept his auction items.

He made two unsuccessful attempts against Dr Steve Thornley, who was his treating endocrinologist. The first was for $6634 before Larkin attempted to take $60,000 from Dr Thornley's medical practice.

Outside the court Dr Thornley said he was "absolutely gutted" by Larkin's actions and that he had been allowed to use "the court as his ATM".

Another of his victims, Andrew Strauss, said that he was enraged that his former friend had tried to steal from him and that Larkin was an "habitual liar".

Another of his five victims was former friend Toni Gonninan who hadn't heard from Larkin for a decade when he turned up at her house in 2014 on hearing of her son's illness. He printed out 23 pages from the internet relating to the medical condition and later filed a claim for just under $60,000 for his research efforts.

He was not successful in his attempt to steal from Ms Gonninan.

Larkin was also charged with stealing a valuable Les Darcy boxing ticket from a rare book dealer which he subsequently tried to sell.

Only recently Larkin spent four months in jail for a multitude of traffic-related fraud offences. Throughout 2015 Larkin sped through red lights, drove in bus lanes, roared through school zones and failed to pay tolls.

To avoid paying the multitude of fines, Larkin signed statutory declarations claiming that the habitual offender was his friend Michael Geoffrey Oliver, a former boxer and Kings Cross debt collector, who suffered dementia and had no driving licence.

He was also sentenced to 16 months' weekend detention in 2007 after pleading guilty to defrauding the former Macquarie Bank director Bill Moss of $38,050.

In 2007 he was sentenced to 18 months jail after he was caught lying under oath.

On appeal he claimed that he had given false answers because he was suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Although, his claim was dismissed the jail term was reduced to a good behaviour bond.

In 2004 Larkin and his son Jordan were banned from operating a finance broking business for 20 years and 10 years, respectively, after ripping off their clients.

He was bankrupted in 1991 with debts of $60 million through a failed property development. A few years later he was bankrupted again.
