Formed this year by locals Col Jeffs, Adam Meiklejohn and Troy Jeffs, Greylands thumped Queanbeyan Whites 45-0 in the decider – one of the Cup’s most convincing results in a final.
Historically Greylands was put together by Cowra Rugby Club life member Bill Rowlands who’s property was named ‘Greylands.’
Rowlands entered his side in various tournaments and attracted some of the state’s best talent.
On Saturday, Greylands were hugely dominant going through the tournament undefeated.
The side’s only scare came in the Cup semi-final against the Bill Cummins and Jason Date led Riders Of Rohan but Greylands managed a 21-12 win.
In the decider, fatigue caught up with their opponetns with Queanbeyan Whites bringing 21 players and entering two sides.
“It was a truly outstanding effort from Queanbeyan,” organiser Ben Casey said.
Further Cowra connections in the Greylands side included, Charlie Dunhill, Simon Meiklejohn, Patrick Meiklejohn, Tom Dewhurst, Cameron Leal, Michael Delaney and Aaron Booth.
In the Plate final, last year’s runners up the Unstoppable Mudchooks went one better recording a mammoth victory against Woy Woy 74-0.
“It was probably some of the biggest blowouts in the finals we’ve ever seen. Queanbeyan brought 21 players for two sides so the Whites were pretty busted,” Ben Casey said.
“Woy Woy was the same, they lost a few players throughout the day.
“It was a great day overall with some really good rugby played.”
Greylands’ Sam Lane was recognised as the Colt of the Tournament for his outstanding play all day.
