The nation’s eyes were all watching with excitement and anticipation of a new speedway venue with a number of well known members of the industry on hand.
A lot of ex-riders, former internationals and speedway fans from all over the state turned up to check out the new complex and also witness some great racing.
Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club has spent 18 months constructing the track and hopes to hold state and national speedway titles, juniors and seniors, in the near future.
The afternoon program commenced with junior support with local pocket rocket Moz Brown dominating the junior program only dropping one point in the heats to emerge triumphant in the A Final taking the checkered flag in style.
Mozzy has started 2017 in fine style having placed second in the 2017 Australian under 16s 125cc championships and crowned 2017 Australian under 16s 125cc Teams Champion with fellow NSW rider Jack Miles.
Unfortunately, due to the late withdrawal of five riders, the club decided to hold a senior teams meeting featuring the two teams the Woody Woodpeckers and GM Australia.

Prior to the commencement of the senior program a minute’s silence was held for the passing of Pauline Langfield, former secretary, life member and one of the founding members of Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club.
President Steve Kurtz paid tribute to Pauline for her dedication to the club.
In front of a huge crowd the seniors didn’t disappoint with close scores all the way through the meeting.
Local brothers Ben and Zach Cook’s performance was outstanding.
Ben, a former NSW under 16 125cc speedway champion was the highest points scorer for the Woody Woodpeckers and Zach, equally as impressive, was the highest point scorer along with Central Coast rider Taylor Poole for the GM Australia team.
Their points earned them both a spot in the highly sought after heat 15 along with Ben’s team mate Jack Holder for Woody Woodpeckers and Taylor Poole joined Zach for GM Australia.
Ben and Jack came out in front in heat 15 with Zach in third place and Taylor taking a dive, but remounting and finishing the race in fourth.
The final score saw GM Australia take the win with 46 points and Woody Woodpeckers a close runner up, only two points behind with 44 points.
Meanwhile a membership and practice day will be held this Sunday, February 26 with sign-on from 9am and practice from 11am to 4pm.
Seniors cost is $35, juniors $30.
