After a stellar career taking 138 wickets at 27.47 in 34 Tests, Walker became a well known and likened commentator and TV host for such shows as Nine’s Wide World of Sports.
In 2005 Walker attended the 25th anniversary of the Cowra’s Sportsperson of the Year awards, and he will remain one of the most popular special guests the committee has secured the services of.
The night was a special one for Cowra’s Cahill family with Mathew taking out the Sportsperson of the Year and brother Michael being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“He was very popular, so popular some people asked ‘why don’t we get him again’,” Barry Doyle OAM said.
“It was a magic year, they are all good but this one was especially good,” his wife Carole added.
