The Cowra Gem and Collectors Club hosted their 48th Collectors Fair on May 14 and 15 2016, which seemed to be very successful from the comments received over the past few months.
People who made the efforts to visit the fair, whether they travelled from interstate, abroad or just from across the road, were overwhelmed with what they had seen.
Especially with the younger generation being informed by their parents and grandparents on items that haven’t been around for decades, but were very common in their era.
In fact, I would say many items were used back before the Korean War, would had been far better than the more modern articles that some people use today.
Plus many visitors came back on Sunday, as there were not enough hours in the day to take it all in.
Along with making purchases of items that may had eluded them for many years.
Also the members would like to express their gratitude to everyone that helped out in some way, no matter how small.
Because if not for the likes of the Cowra Show Society, the Cowra Guardian, Yellow House Cowra, Royce’s and Ken’s Bakeries, Coles Supermarket, Cowra Shire Council, Cowra Tourist Information Centre, Jeff McKay, Max Francis along with the many food outlets.
Thanks must also go to the many volunteers along with the members of the Lions Club who worked so tirelessly over the weekend.
Thanks must go to the many accommodation venues along with the businesses in Cowra and surrounding districts which allowed our posters to be displayed in their windows.
But most of all, a big thank you goes to the exhibitors.
But then we can’t forget the people in the Central West who maybe suffering and are in need of assistance who are little more financial because of your presence, with most of the proceeds going to the Lions Club.
Plus we hope to see you all again next year.

Theo thanks residents for support
To the Editor,
Through your paper I would like to thank the residents of the Cowra Shire for their support during the elections.
As a candidate, it was an honour and privilege to campaign to represent such a great community.
I would also like to wish the new Council all the very best for a successful and productive term over the next four years.
Candidate

Pauline has more intelligence than most
Re your editorial 6/9, Pauline Hanson “please explain”.
Obviously you are happy with the political status quo.
Your analogy re Christian white males with Muslim terrorists, was way off line.
Aussies don’t go about shooting at random.
We who live in regional areas are fortunate we don’t live in fear of radical Muslims.
It is much different in cities, where some schools and councils no longer celebrate Christmas, Muslim students who don’t stand for the national anthem, fast food outlets that have removed bacon from their menu, Muslim tax drivers who won’t take guide dogs. These are just a few examples.
And by the way, Pauline Hanson was correct in 1996 when she said we would be overrun with Asians.
There are more than a million Chinese now living in Aussie land.
Pauline Hanson has more social conscience, commonsense and intelligence than most of our politicians.
Warren Reid.
