A number of recommendations carried at the Traffic Committee meeting on August 15 has been met with disagreement from a number of Councillors.

The minutes were presented at the last Council meeting with Councillors voicing their concerns over the motions.
One of the issues raised was the concerns of Noonbinna residents over the safety of the intersection of the Noonbinna Road and the Olympic Highway.
The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) investigated the intersection and ruled that no further action was required.
Councillor Bruce Miller said the RMS found that the intersection has compiled with Australian standards.
“The issue has been raised and referred to the RMS a number of times,” Cr Miller said.
“It does not need any action at this stage.”
Despite passing the motion, Councillor Ray Walsh said residents were concerned about the safety of the intersection.
“I’m rather disappointed about the ruling,” Cr Walsh said.
“It’s a worrying situation for Noonbinna residents.”
Councillor Kevin Wright believed more could be done on the road.
“It’s not a normal traffic situation, there are heavy duty vehicles,” Cr Wright said.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen.
“I can’t fathom this continued recommendation.”
Councillor Bill West said he could understand the concerns from all sides of the issue.
“We are not completely 100% in agreeance with the RMS,” Cr West said.
Councillor Miller assured that residents and roadusers would be safe and said there was the possibility of roadworks on the intersection.
“The RMS have indicated roadworks but nothing is certain at this stage,” Cr Miller said.
A recommendation to consult with residents of Poignand Avenue and St Raphael’s School regarding proposed changes to parking arrangements was also carried at the Traffic Committee meeting.
Cr Miller said that there had been incidents of drivers parking across residential driveways.
“It does need more consultation with residents, maybe some education and co-operation,” Cr Miller said.
Cr Walsh said there were alternative areas nearby where parents could drop off students.
“I think the school can be reminded that the St Raphael’s Church carpark is also a school carpark.”
