A staggering 2152 speeding tickets were issued from July 1, 2015 to June 31, 2016 by the Canobolas Local Are Command and Highway Patrol according to data from the Office of State Revenue.
Those fines have cost motorists a total of $554,556.
December was the worst month in that period, with 287 motorists caught speeding at a cost of $69,534 in fines.
March and November were not far behind with 231 fines issued in each and a total of $114,308 collected during the two months.
June was the month when motorists collected the least amount of fines, with only $23,016 raised from 88 offences
In 2014-15, 2,851 speeding tickets were issued at a cost to motorists of $760,082.
In 2013-14 there were 2,769 speeding fines handed out, costing motorists $675,475.
Acting Inspector Ben Macfarlane from Western Region Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said there was no sign people were getting the message.
“Unfortunately we aren’t seeing any great improvement. The number of fatal crashes is high, although the number of injuries from crashes is lower,” he said.
“An increase or drop in numbers over the short term could be because there was a strikeforce targeting speeding or lower police numbers because of people on leave.
It really isn’t an indication of a change in trend.”
