While having a strong mix of youth and experience, Bowling Club struggled to build momentum, and they'll have to rebuild without former Western Zone batsman Mick Curtale.
Curtale has joined Queanbeyan in the ACT first grade competition, he pummeled two centuries for Bowly last season, but he will be replaced capably by Nick Berry.
The former Eastern Suburbs first grader has captained Western Zone on his arrival back to the region, and is a massive recruit for Bowling Club and their strive to become a premiership force once again.
"He'll play a few games throughout the year, if we get four or five out of him that'd be a great experience for the younger kids," Bowling Club skipper Matt Crawley said.
"There's probably six that are 18 or younger. You can't win a competition with just one or two players contributing so I'll be looking for the younger guys to take an increased responsibility, they've been playing A grade for a few years now," he said.
Crawley identified Charlie Johns and the Johnstone brothers, Drew and Kurt, as three of their best young up and comers and Chris Howarth, formerly of Wyangala, as their new opening bowler.
Nathan Worth and John Clarke are two more they'll be without.
Bowly do battle with Morongla tomorrow, a side coming off a strong performance last season being knocked out in the preliminary final by eventual champions the Young Coyotes.
Morongla are a young squad that will have grown in confidence over the off season but will similarly miss senior batsmen with former openers Cameron Edgar and Brad Rose unavailable.
Their captain Conor Crook and Jarrod Proctor will likely take responsibility at the top of the order while the McNaught brothers, Sam and Jacob, will continue their new ball partnership.
The match begins at Twigg Oval at 1pm tomorrow.
The round's other match is Canowindra versus the Young Blues at Oliver.
