Mayor Bill West, General Manager of Cowra Council Paul Devery and Chair of the Festival, Councillor Ruth Fagan, recently visited the High Commission of Tonga in Canberra to officially invite the guest nation to the Festival.
The delegation was warmly received by the High Commissioner of Tonga, HRH Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku'aho, the Princess of Tonga.
"She and her small staff were very welcoming. They were very pleased to be involved," Cr Fagan said.
Cr Fagan said the festival looks set to include cultural activities such as gospel choirs, basket weaving at Cowra Art Gallery, rugby and Tongan themed food and entertainment at pub, clubs and restaurants around the town.
"We want to add a Tongan flavour to the menu," Cr Fagan said.
The committee is looking for people of Tongan heritage or anyone who has spent a long period of time in the country to offer cultural advice for the festival.
Cr Fagan also said they were looking for a coordinator for the festival.
"Every little bit will mean it's a big success. Watch this space."
