Cowra Mayor, Bill West has spoken out against the negative behaviour of some members of the community.
"Many unsubstantiated claims of cruelty and inhumane treatment at the facility are currently circulating on social media and online," he said.
"This has manifested itself in threats of extreme violence towards council staff; NSW Police are involved in investigating these threats and action will be taken against those involved.
"It should be remembered that Cowra Pound, and all other pounds, only exist because of the failure of members of society to adequately supervise and maintain control over animals under their care."
Cr West said that the council ranger has successfully carried-out a range of duties for a long period of time.
"Council has full confidence in the ranger who has, for many years, performed this extremely-challenging and difficult role very well in keeping the community safe from dog attacks, amongst his other regulatory duties," he said.
Council is still investigating the issue and reviewing their procedure, practices and facilities in regards to the impoundment service.
