Updated 5.30pm - A patient seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident this afternoon on the Mid Western Highway has been evacuated via helicopter for medical treatment.

The accident occurred this afternoon, 38 kilometres east of Cowra, near Lyndhurst.
A NSW Police media spokesperson confirmed a number of crews from different areas were on scene, and that a person is, or was, trapped, however had no further details.
At the time of writing (5.30pm Friday evening) the highway remained closed in both directions with diversions in place.
Westbound motorists are being diverted via Mandurama onto the Belubula Way, left into Walli Road and then back onto the highway.
Eastbound motorists are diverting onto Walli Road, right onto Belubula Way and then back onto the highway in Mandurama.
This diversion is suitable for all vehicles. Motorists are advised to allow some extra travel time.
Crash investigators are also attending and as a result, the highway is expected to be closed for some time.
