I am writing this as concerned driver.
I travel across the low level every day to and from work and am getting more and more agitated with the way the kids have no regard for the road users going across.
I have had various run ins with a few of them, from spitting at cars, to throwing mud, to jumping in front of the car to scare the drivers.
I have seen these or been involved in some of these situations on many occasions.
Recently I saw about seven or eight kids lined up on either side of the bridge and as cars went past they were hitting the vehicles.
The car in front of me was hit quite solidly and as I went past I had my windows down saying don't you bloody touch my car. I rang Police and they'd already had reports of this happening. But the crunch came on later. I was travelling home for lunch and saw kids chasing each other from one side to another. As I approached a kid no more than 11 ran straight in front of my Triton. I had to put my brakes on that hard that my vehicle skidded and missed the child by inches. I abused the hell out of him asking him if he wanted to live. His mates just laughed. I rang the Police again and the poor officer copped a gob full out of sheer frustration and panic I suppose.
If I had hit the kid I would have been the one in trouble. I would have had to pay for the damages and I would have had to live with the outcome. This is so wrong.
Please don't get me wrong, the river is a great place for swimming and some of the inventions like the slide they put in was hilarious.
As a young fella I was always there, occasionally even training for football in there, but enough is enough.
With the main street closed off there will be a lot more traffic using the low level. How long til one of these kids gets run over? Who is responsible?
Kids, PLEASE have a bit of respect.
P.S. I know there will be backlashes but this has to be addressed.
Yours Sincerely,
Steve Ford, Cowra.
