TOM Adams couldn’t have asked for a better send-off as his CSU Yellow squad came away with Saturday’s Centennial Coal Cup grand final win and he was named best on ground.

The Mungoes lock played a pivotal role for the side, particularly in an energetic first half, to apply the early pressure on the Blackheath Blackcats in the 22-10 win.
While Adams enjoyed an excellent match, it’s a deserved award for a invaluable player who was part of the club back during its Tertiary League days three years ago.
Adams was thrilled to receive the award after his final 80 minutes at the club were up.
“Everyone worked together. It was scrappy at times, but in the end we’ve come away with the win,” he said.
“It’s my last game here for the Mungoes, so to go out on a win and get best and fairest – and there were plenty of other boys out there it could have gone to – I’m very honoured to accept it.”
It was Adams who proved a handful in offence, but just as much so in defence where he stifled plenty of the Blackheath attack through the middle of the park.
After coming off briefly in the second half, he battled on again when the visitors caught a second wind, providing plenty of support when Blackheath found points.
It’s not the first time he’s managed to taste success with the Mungoes, also being part of the 2012 competition winning Blue squad.
Adams was quick to give his thanks to his club-mates for the good times he’s had over the past four years.
“This is my third year now in the Centennial Coal Cup. I love the club, I don’t want to move on, but I’m going to have to, being a uni student,” he said.
“It’s a different kind of club because you don’t really have the same fellas year in and year out. That’s a good aspect. This year there’s a heap of new first years coming in and I’m sure they’ll be able to do the job again.
“It’s a fairytale finish. We’re going to enjoy these next couple of days celebrating.”
