Globes strung up in Squire Park and festive melodies set the tone for the evening which organiser Cowra Tourism's Annabel Gay said was a huge success.
"We're so proud of the efforts of everyone involved," Ms Gay said.
"It was a wonderful time for community spirit and it was so nice to see the town turn out to support the event and their local retailers."
Over 60 stallholders were inundated with people looking to bag a Christmas bargain.
Cowra Public School's booth kept selling out of spinach, beetroot and fetta rolls and the baby animals of the Petting Zoo proved popular with the young and old.
A semi-trailer from Cowra Freight formed the stage where John Dreverman, the vocal ensemble and SAMI performed before a captive audience.
"What a wonderful view it is from this particular point," Mayor Bill West said while addressing the crowd.
Cr West thanked Cowra Tourism, Cowra Business Chamber and local businesses for the hard work they'd put in and said he hoped "next year it'll become bigger and better."
Member for Hume Angus Taylor was in awe of the crowd in attendance.
"I have 12 local government areas in Hume and I have never seen an event like it in any of them, let alone for the first year," Mr Taylor said.
The Lachlan Hotel received a prize for distributing the first ticket that was drawn.
Duo Anya Gower and Maddy Mulligan came away with first place in the Buskers Unplugged competition.
The young flautist and violinist entertained revellers with Christmas carols and were dressed the part with tinsel in their hair.
Waugoola Motors took out the window dressing competition with their "Aussie Christmas" display.
Renae Amos from Waugoola Motors said a lot of people have been coming in just to take a look at the 1956 FJ Holden ute parked in their front window, complete with Santa in the driver's seat and a tray full of presents.
"We've noticed a lot of people peering out their car windows as they go around the corner," she laughed.
Ms Amos thanked Gordan Rowe for lending them the car and said they were thrilled to have come out on top of some stiff competition.
Santa will be hanging out in the window until Christmas, meaning there's still time to check out the display.
"Because we have to leave the display up until Christmas day, the boss couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't sell a new ute if we put it in there so we borrowed one off a customer," Ms Amos said.
Cowra Business Chamber President Ben Casey said he was impressed with the size of the crowd and received a lot of positive feedback on the night.
"All in all there were more people than we expected," Mr Casey said.
"Any additional trade is good for retailers. There was a big crowd there, having a good time and spending money, which is good for our town."
Next year's Night Markets are already on the calendar.
