Club Championships
The following final first round match of the 'A' grade triples championship was played last Saturday between Noel Hubber, Nev Connor and Gerard Beath against Jack Nobes (sub for Charlie Bryant), Luke Nobes and Russel Nobes, and what a great game it turned out to be.
Gerard got away to a great start to lead 8-0 after three ends but by the completion of the tenth end he only led 10-9.
Gerard picked up two shots on the next end but the Nobes boys then hit their straps scoring eight shots over the next five ends to lead 17-12 with five ends to play.
These five ends seemed to take forever but in the end they were fairly evenly shared with the Nobes' entering the semi-final on the back of a 20-16 victory.
The first round matches of the handicap pairs are to be played on, or before, Saturday August 31with the second round to be played the following day, Sunday September 1.

Damage to greens
The committee has asked me to express their growing concern regarding the incorrect delivery of bowls by some of our members - specifically those who throw their bowl out in front of them, not deliver it on the ground.
Our green keepers do a great job in maintaining our greens and it is unfair to them, and indeed all other bowling members, to have a few of our bowlers damaging the greens with their delivery.
Some clubs actually bar members who will not take steps to rectify their delivery but this is not a step that we are willing to take, unless it is absolutely necessary.
There are aids available to bowlers who have difficulty in bending sufficiently to get their bowl on the green in an acceptable manner, primarily the "bowler's arm" (check out the bowls magazine or any bowls website).
We have no intentions of stopping any bowler enjoying the game of bowls but if the practice of 'throwing' bowls continues we may have to take measures to ensure that the greens stay in the best condition possible and the majority of our members can play bowls on undamaged greens.
