Unfortunately, our May branch meeting was cancelled as a number of members were suffering various illnesses, including COVID.
It was therefore pleasing that there was a good attendance at our June meeting, which was the opportunity for our delegates and observers to report on the 100th conference and AGM held at Royal Randwick Racecourse from 1st to 4th May.
The theme of the conference was "Embracing and Celebrating Diversity in our Centenary Year". Delegates Ann Apthorpe and Ros Ryan, using a powerpoint of photos, reported on the inspirational speakers, such as Layne Beachley and Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons, as well as some of the interesting motions that were debated and the beautiful displays, such as handicraft and Land Cookery.
Observer Bernadette Newham filled members in on her two days of volunteering at the conference, which included helping with voting and processing CWA Shop orders.
Rowena Casey, as the Chairperson of the Show Catering Committee, reported on the CWA Tearooms at the recent Sydney Royal Easter Show, where they were celebrating 100 years of the CWA of NSW and 200 years of the Royal Agricultural Society.
Whilst not breaking any records, they did make over 32,000 scones, which was a great effort considering that one day of trading was disrupted due to a stabbing and the tearooms were forced to close two days early when some of the committee and volunteers caught COVID.
Madeleine Rankin was congratulated on being the winner of our raffle of a patchwork quilt, which many had admired while it was on display in the vacant shop next to Relish.
Retiring State Vice President, Judy Houghton also reported on her busy time at State conference as well as events attended since and planned for later in the year.
Congratulations to Caroline Cuda of St Raphael's Catholic School who was placed 2nd in the Years 9 and 10 section of the Inter Group Public Speaking competition held in Cowra recently - a wonderful effort competing with the top speakers from the Central Western, Oxley and Far Western CWA Groups.
