A Grenfell native, Joshua Carpenter recently graduated from the Police Academy at Goulburn and received a country posting.
Probationary Constable Carpenter said he was following in the family footsteps by joining the force.
"It comes from a family background," he said.
"My old man is in the cops, my brother is in the cops and I love the community so I wanted to give back and do what I can."
He said receiving the Cowra posting had been fantastic.
"I love it out here, there is a mix of jobs we get to go to and working in a smaller team compared to Sydney stations is good.
"You get to make closer friends and relationships in the community. Community based policing is a lot more attractive to me personally.
"You get to know people on a first name basis, you can walk down the street and say hello to anyone and they'll say hello back and you can have a conversation."
Probationary Constable Carpenter said he was looking forward to any opportunities that might arise in his role and encouraged the community to come forward if they had any issues.
"I'm only young, so I'm happy to see where it takes me," he said.
"I'll let the job dictate the way and explore my options, there are plenty of pathways in the career.
"But I look forward to knowing the community more and mixing in for a few years and seeing where it goes.
"Our door is always open, don't be afraid to speak up, there is always some here."
